Do you ever find yourself lacking motivation? You know what you should do, or what you want, but you can’t find the drive to reach your goals? Or maybe you have lots of motivation, but the things you’re striving for aren’t bringing you true happiness.
Recently, on The Joe Sikorra Show, Joe was discussing motivation, and he shared how we can look to our Catholic faith to find the motivation and the purpose to strive toward true happiness. Joe said:
“I think God speaks about this, our faith speaks about this, differently than what you will find in some self-help book. God actually speaks about your true self. And it’s not about just becoming something different, it’s not about just going from A to B. In fact, you’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are, because in that moment you fill find yourself the proud owner of everything that can’t be bought.
Now, your motivation might be, ‘I want that! I want a bigger house! I want a nicer car!’ And God says just the opposite. You might find the motivation and the energy to get that thing, but where are you going to end up?
God says you’re blessed when you’re starving, because then you work up a good appetite for God, because His food and drink are the best thing you will ever eat. He says you’re blessed when you get your inside world – your mind and your heart – put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.
Are you lacking motivation? Or is it all around you and you find yourself saying, ‘What’s next, God?’ I think your faith leads you to that place where you say, ‘Now what, Lord?’ That’s real motivation, not just some feeling that is fleeting. That’s the motivation that is necessary to keep you going.
… Here’s the news, do you know what God is saying? He’s saying, ‘You are here to be salt. You are here to be light.’ Because God is not a secret to be kept. God is making you a light-bearer, it is your purpose to be light. And He said, ‘Do you think I’m going to hide you under a bucket? No, I’m putting you on a stand. I’m putting you on a hilltop. So shine.’
Those are God’s words, they’re not Joe Sikorra’s words, this is not my idea. This is God’s idea. God has said this is why you’re here. Are you living with that kind of motivation, with that understanding that God is calling you to do exactly that, to be light?”
