In Scripture, Jesus tells us, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12) Yet, sometimes we look at ourselves and realize that we follow Jesus only because it is how we were raised, or out of fear, guilt, or duty. And sometimes we’re not following Him at all.
God gave us the freedom to follow Him or reject Him. Are you following Christ or going your own way?
Recently on The Joe Sikorra Show, Fr. Dave Heney offered a prayer asking for the grace to freely choose to walk with Christ, wherever that may lead. Choosing Christ is not a one-time event, so no matter how long you have been a Christian, this prayer can help keep you on the right path.
Heavenly Father, we give you thanks for the freedom that you have given us in your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ; who always presented us with the challenge to freely choose Him, to follow Him.
When He walks up to each of us and says, ‘Follow Me,’ we can either go our way or we can go His way. Give us the grace that we need to always freely choose to walk in the way of your Son, Jesus. Because it is only there that we will find the happiness that we know is your will for us.
We ask your blessing on ourselves and our family in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
The Joe Sikorra Show airs weekdays from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Pacific on Immaculate Heart Radio.
