3 Things You Can Do To Battle Evil

3 Things You Can Do To Battle Evil

These days, talking about the devil as a real force may get you some strange looks. Many view the devil as a fictional character, and believe he affects our world and our lives about as much as the Tooth Fairy does. But Scripture tells us that the devil is real and there are many instances in the Bible in which Jesus talks to demons and casts out demons from those who are possessed.

Pope Francis is also known to often talk about the devil and his works. In a 2010 book, On Heaven and Earth, Pope Francis (then Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio) said:

“I believe that the Devil exists and his greatest achievement in these times has been to make us believe that he doesn’t exist.”

Recently on The Patrick Madrid Show, Patrick and his callers shared instances in their own lives when demonic forces manifested themselves, and what they did to battle them. Patrick then discussed how we can be more aware of the devil’s attempts to scare us, and how to restore a sense of calm and peace.

Remember That Christ is With You
One very important thing to remember is what it says in the Holy Bible in 1 John 4:4: Little children, you are from God and have overcome them. For He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. Remind yourself of that. If ever you find yourself feeling spooked or worried or scared and you’re thinking about the devil or that kind of thing, just remember: he’s a pipsqueak. He only has any power if the person he is trying to get at allows him to.

You have Jesus in you. You have the Triune God living in you. If you are in a state of grace, you are in great shape.

Remain in a State of Grace
If you’re not in a state of grace, by all means get back in a state of grace. … If you want to keep the devil far away from you and far away from your family, the single dumbest thing you can do is to be in a state of mortal sin and remain there. No joke. If you’re in the state of mortal sin, especially if you continue to go up to Communion on Sunday and you haven’t been to Confession in a while … if you’re in that situation right now and you’re troubled by the fact that ‘Old Hairy Legs’ is prowling around, that’s the first thing you need to do – get back right with God again and get back to the Sacrament of Confession. … If you are in a state of grace, then you have nothing to fear.

Be Prepared & Prepare Your Children
Make sure that you’re prepared, that you’re praying, that you don’t allow opportunities for the Evil One to sneak into your life. And teach your kids these things. If you go through all the trouble to make sure they have a good education, and you go through all the trouble to make sure they have good health, and get their teeth cleaned and everything else, but you don’t take care of their immortal souls? Big time mistake.
