Have you ever felt that God was calling you to something, and your first reaction was fear? Recently on The Joe Sikorra Show, Joe talked about how we can find the courage to do God’s will in our lives.
“You might find real connection with God when you engage in what you fear, as long as you bring God into it. And Jesus reminded His disciples, He reminds you, He said if you want to go with Him, go for it. But you’ve got to let Him lead.
And He said don’t run from the suffering. I mean, there are scary things out there. God might be calling you to lead an adventurous life that may have some scary things attached to it. But He’s not pushing you out there and telling you to do it. He’s walking right with you. Wherever He calls you can be assured that He is walking right with you. And that’s where the courage comes from.
This is not about self-help. This is not about confidence. It’s about belief and trust. Because God is calling you. I don’t know what He is calling you to, but maybe you have an inkling. Maybe there’s something in the back of your mind, in your heart, that you think you’d like to do, but you’re kinda scared. God knows that.
But He did that with Peter and Andrew – they were just fishermen. They weren’t great evangelists, they caught fish for a living. And Jesus said, ‘Come with me. And I’ll make you fishers of men.’ And they dropped their nets and they followed Him. Not because they believed in themselves. If they looked at themselves I’m sure they’d have a long conversation and tell the Lord that they were pretty good at catching fish, could tell the difference between a bass and a trout, but they were not so good at preaching the Gospel.
They could have said that. I don’t know exactly what they said, but in Mark’s Gospel they just dropped their nets and they followed Him. Remember that Jesus describes Himself as the vine and He says that you are the branches. Now think about that – you’re connected with Him. When you’re joined with Him, when you experience that intimate and organic relationship, then the harvest is sure to be abundant. Make yourself at home with Him. Because you can be sure that whatever you ask will be listened to and acted upon.
God didn’t send you out into the big, bad world to do this on your own. What would you do differently if you really embraced and believed that?”
