Italian nun becomes internet phenomenon

singing_nun_the_voice_italySister Cristina Scuccia, a 25-year-old member of the Ursuline Sisters of the Holy Family, has become the fastest-growing internet phenomenon of all time after her performance on the Italian version of The Voice went viral.

Sr. Cristina sang “No One” by Alicia Keys and stunned the judges with both her talent and her religious habit. When asked what brought her to perform on The Voice, Sr. Cristina said,

“I have a gift and I am giving it to you. Shouldn’t things be that way?”

The video of Sr. Cristina’s performance has been viewed more than 31 million times, garnering more than 13 million hits in the first three days after the audition. This breaks the record for a video to pass the 10 million view mark, making Sister Cristina the fastest-growing Youtube sensation ever. The previous record holder was “Gangnam Style” by Korean pop star Psy, which took 18 days to reach the 10 million view mark before becoming the most-watched YouTube video of all time with nearly 2 billion hits.

On Wednesday’s Right Here, Right Now with Patrick Madrid, Patrick and callers discussed Sister Cristina’s appearance and their reactions to it.  Hear their opinions on singing nuns and evangelization by listening to the show!
