San Diego Chargers QB, Phillip Rivers, Passes on His Faith

There’s a great article about San Diego Charger Philip Rivers in the National Catholic Register. Mr. Rivers, a supporter of Immaculate Heart Radio’s efforts to bring Catholic Radio to San Diego, is profiled and discusses his career, faith and family in the article.

He even discusses his Patron Saint, St. Sebastian.

“St. Sebastian is the patron of athletes, so I wear a medal of him, along with a miraculous medal and a crucifix. There are many stories I could tell about his patronage, but here’s just one. In a 2008 playoff game I tore my ACL [anterior cruciate ligament]. The week following that game was a very spiritual one for me. My mom asked me on the phone, “Do you know that St. Sebastian’s feast day [Jan. 20] is the day of the next playoff game?” Amazingly, maybe even miraculously, I was able to play that game.”

Severe Weather in Northern CA causing issues

We are currently monitoring severe weather in the Sierra Nevada that may affect stations in the Susanville/Quincy area as well as the Reno/Truckee/Tahoe area. We’ll keep the web site updated with the latest news and information as it happens.

Our station in Monterey, KNRY, is back on the air at this time. We thank all the utility workers that helped restore power to our station so quickly.

Back on the Air in Sacramento

After some hard work from our engineering staff and the good folks at the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), we are back on the air in Sacramento.

The power failure, due to a crane vs. power line accident has been repaired. We should experience no more outages from this failure.

Our station in Sacramento, KSHM, is currently experiencing some power problems and is temporarily off the air. Utilities have been called and we are working to get the station back on the air as quickly as possible.

Back on the air in New Mexico!

Thanks to our intrepid engineers for getting us back on the air in Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Socorro! After terrible winter storms rolled through the area and damaged our transmitter at the top of Sandia Crest, we were forced to go to a lower power temporary transmitter. Today engineers climbed the tower and repaired our antenna and we are back at full power!

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this outage and want to extend a special thanks to everyone in New Mexico that contacted us to tell us how things were going.

Limited Transmission in Albuquerque

Due to severe weather in Albuquerque NM, we have been forced to place a temporary antenna up on Sandia Crest in order to continue transmitting. The last few days have seen large snow drifts which have left the road closed to our engineering staff. On Dec. 26th, our Engineers had the road plowed and reached the Crest in order to put us back on the air with a temporary antenna.

This temporary antenna doesn’t operate at the same capacity as our regular antenna, so our coverage may be a bit spotty and we are still having troubles feeding Santa Fe and Socorro. We will continue to update the website with details as they are given to us. We are hopeful that we’ll have everything fixed in the coming weeks.

Severe weather in New Mexico causing outages

Just to let everyone know, we are currently experiencing severe weather in Santa Fe, Socorro, and Albuquerque. There may be intermittent outages throughout the area as this heavy winter storm rolls through.
