Pope Francis celebrated his 77th birthday today with a simple celebration at Casa Santa Marta, the Vatican guesthouse where he has lived since being elected pope. He invited the staff and residents of Casa Santa Marta to join him for morning Mass, followed by breakfast at the residence.

After Mass, Pope Francis greeted everyone in attendance, and the Papal Almoner, Msgr. Konral Krajewski, presented four homeless men whom he invited to the celebration. All in attendance sang a birthday song to the Holy Father before heading to breakfast together. The Vatican said the meal had a “family-like” atmosphere.

To honor Pope Francis on his birthday, the Vatican released a digital card, with more than 30 photos accompanied by quotes from the Holy Father. The card can be viewed at the Vatican web site.
